- ➤ U.S. Army Pvt. James Gilbert Loterbaugh, an Ohio native who served on an M4 Sherman tank in 1944, will be laid to rest with full military honors at Dayton National Cemetery after DNA and anthropological tests confirmed his identity — a public visitation is set from 4 to 6 p.m. on June 2 at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering and a private service will follow on June 3. - ➤ The EPA awarded a $1.2 million grant to Montgomery County Land Bank to clean brownfields at sites on Miami Chapel Road and Riverview Ave in Dayton and a 40-acre site in Riverside — the four-year grant will let local groups redevelop contaminated properties with help from Five Rivers MetroParks and the city of Riverside. - ➤ Dayton Police opened a new real-time crime center — equipped with a 54-camera system — that helped secure 21 felony arrests and provided evidence for nearly 30 cases in two months while tracking suspects across the Miami Valley. - ➤ Downtown Dayton has been partially blocked with nearly 70 acres restricted for the 70th NATO Parliamentary Assembly as residents and local businesses face transport and service challenges. - ➤ Wright State is starting Phase 2 of a clinical trial testing eTMS — a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy — to treat PTSD in veterans and first responders and provide students with hands-on research experience. - ➤ After a ransomware attack on May 20 disrupted its systems, Kettering Health made progress restoring technology and resumed key treatments like radiotherapy as announced by Dr. Anthony Paravati—patients are advised to keep their scheduled appointments while some, such as 82-year-old David Foubert, await rescheduling.
