  • Luke’s Custom Cakes is opening a second retail space inside the Dayton Arcade to offer grab-and-go treats like cupcakes, cookies, and brownies; owner Luke Heizer said the Dayton location will initially focus on retail sales—leaving custom orders to the larger Hamilton shop where most baking is done.  Dayton Daily News

  • Dayton Police arrested three people on Monday after a dispute following an 11-year-old girl's dog bite turned violent with shots fired on the 300 block of Delaware Avenue—six firearms were seized and the girl received hospital care and is expected to be ok.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Unofficial results for the Dayton City Commission race show that Beckham with 27.65%, incumbent Fairchild with 23.13%, Wick with 20.55% and Davis with 15.51% advance to November’s ballot — with only two open seats available — as candidates plan to intensify voter outreach.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • A Dayton Daily News investigation found that local lawmakers like Sen. Jon Husted, Sen. Bernie Moreno, and Reps. Mike Turner, Mike Carey, Warren Davidson, and Jim Jordan have not traded individual stocks in recent years while Rep. Greg Landsman sold many of his to build trust with his constituents. Lawmakers are now proposing a law (the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments Act) to ban such trades and avoid conflicts of interest.  Dayton Daily News
  • Community members spoke out at a Montgomery County commission meeting Tuesday evening in Germantown and urged officials to change jail practices after nine inmate deaths occurred over the past 2.5 years—testifying about Christian Black’s death in custody and demanding that the sheriff resign and officers be held accountable. Their voices highlighted a call for transparent investigations amid ongoing concerns of neglect and injustice at the jail.  Dayton Daily News
