COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city and nonprofits have launched the Pathways to Homeownership Initiative to build 30 pre-built homes in the Hope Zone near Fairview Elementary School, with two completed on McCleary Avenue. Each 1,100 (sqft) unit costs about $170,000 and serves first-time buyers who will receive temporary property tax relief.  WYSO
  • The Salvation Army's Dayton KROC Center is providing holiday meals and gift cards to 3,600 families this Christmas as part of its 15-year campaign. Major Martina Cornell said donations enable support for food, utilities, and lifestyle aid (including toy options for children).  Dayton 24/7 Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jeffrey Neace and his family now own Whit’s Frozen Custard at 2367 Dayton Germantown Pike and plan to expand hours to start at noon after the holidays while adding an espresso program in early 2026.  Dayton Daily News
  • Defense companies in Beavercreek, Vandalia, and Fairfield were awarded contracts totaling $262 million. ARCTOS got a $20 million Space Force order (work is scheduled through June 30, 2031), Northrop Grumman earned $142.4 million for test and repair operations, and Lockheed Martin secured a $99.8 million Army support deal.  Dayton Daily News
  • Barry Bagels has opened its second store at 6228 Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Plaza II (2,950 sqft) anchored by Walmart. Owners Jen Fester and Cody Klueter said the new location expands their commissary and customer base in the Dayton region.  Dayton Daily News
  • Chris Small purchased the 15,000 sqft brewery on Oct. 31 at 319 S. Second St in Miamisburg and is renaming it Peerless Mill Inn & Brewery while completing extensive renovations. The venue will add food service by next Christmas and host a Jan. 3 concert with live music.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dave’s Hot Chicken opened its first Dayton region location on Dec. 12 at a Beavercreek site across from The Mall at Fairfield Commons, serving Nashville-style hot chicken with seven spice levels and sides (fries, shakes, and more) to a supportive crowd, and the chain plans to expand soon.  Dayton Daily News

  • Deeply Rooted Landscapes in Tipp City is offering living, potted Christmas trees for sale or rent this holiday season. The four-year program features native Jack pine and eastern white pine priced $50 to $90 with a 50% refund on returns and invites tree donations for Beavercreek parks (call 937-427-5514).  WYSO

  • Today, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base held its annual Retiree Appreciation Day to honor military retirees + their families by offering support and information from groups like the U.S. Veterans Administration, emphasizing continued care for their service.  WHIO-TV

  • Beavercreek LongHorn Steakhouse employee Eric Morgan reached a milestone by grilling over 1 million steaks in his 25-year career at the Towne Drive location; he received a gold chef coat and a $5,000 award + $1,000 annual bonus as a Grill Master Legend.  Dayton Daily News
  • This holiday season, Dayton offers diverse experiential gifts, including cooking classes at Dorothy Lane Market (at Far Hills Ave. and Mason Montgomery Road), guided tastings at Caesar Creek Vineyards, and creative art sessions in Hamilton.   • The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced that the Dayton area will host the 2025-26 girls and boys basketball state championships this March, with games at UD Arena, Wright State and Vandalia Butler.
