  • Laura Roesch will leave Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley in February to become executive director of The Glen at St. Joseph (a nonprofit for single mothers and children) in March. The agency will soon start its search for her replacement.  Dayton Daily News

  • Flight attendants from PSA Airlines rallied at Dayton International Airport on Thursday, Dec. 18, calling for better pay and conditions ahead of the holiday travel surge (attendants earn only 40% of mainline pay) and warn that many may soon leave if conditions remain unchanged.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Rising prices are straining holiday budgets as over 40 percent of families cut back on gift buying, a Groundwork Collaborative report finds. The study shows prices up 26 percent and a 7 percent drop in spending — factors affecting middle and lower-income households this season.  WHIO-TV

  • Wright State honored Nursing Professor Kim Ringo with the International Education Award for her work helping international nursing students. She mentors students using new methods to break down language barriers (a key to success in U.S. healthcare).  Wright State University
  • Wright State honored two doctoral graduates on Dec. 12 at its Board of Trustees meeting (including Provost Denniston and President Edwards).   • Ohio smoke shops are under a temporary ban on synthetic kratom products containing a potent opioid-like compound, as state regulators work to curb dangerous additions.   • Peggy Lehner, Kettering’s outgoing mayor who served nearly three decades, will leave office at the end of the year while continuing her commitment to local service.
