COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery County’s Stillwater Center Holiday Giving Tree now shines at the Montgomery County Administration Building—located at 451 W. Third St.—to launch a program that fulfills holiday wishes for over 100 intermediate care facility residents. Community members can claim tagged wishes on the physical and digital trees and must deliver new, unwrapped gifts by Monday, Dec. 8 to Stillwater Center at 8100 N. Main St.  Dayton Daily News
  • After a five-year break, Dayton’s Feast of Giving returned on Thursday with free hot meals, live music, children’s activities and visits with Santa Claus. Organizers increased meal servings from 6,000 to 7,000 to help those affected by a government shutdown and SNAP pause—leftover food was donated to Miami Valley Meals.  Dayton Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dayton retail stores will open early on Black Friday to serve holiday shoppers after the National Retail Federation forecast record sales over Thanksgiving weekend. Many area malls are set to open at 7 a.m. while several box stores open at 6 a.m.  Dayton Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Andrea Mikusa, a former Huber Heights teacher, will release her children's book 'The Vowels of Kindness' in early December, a story for kids aged 4 to 8 that shows how to be kind & caring. The book will be sold online and in Barnes and Noble, and Mikusa hopes it will help young readers learn to treat others well.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new $10M dropout recovery school in South Park will open soon with 9 career tech programs for students who did not succeed in regular school—Liberty High aims to offer hands-on training in areas like culinary arts, nail tech and health care. The new 22,000 square-foot building is expected to serve over 400 students and give the program a stronger local presence.  Dayton Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RTA provided free rides on Thanksgiving Day for both fixed-route and paratransit services, letting riders travel without charge on the holiday.  WHIO-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Casey Gould suffered life-threatening postpartum cardiogenic shock minutes after giving birth as doctors at Atrium Medical Center saved her life using a small heart pump—an Impella device—to help her recover. Her husband said the family remains grateful and looks forward to a special Thanksgiving—one made brighter after overcoming rare complications—while cherishing every moment together.  Dayton Daily News
  • Pat McGohan, an 81-year-old Kettering resident, felt very dizzy and had an MRI that showed a dangerous blood clot in his head — a condition that can lead to serious health issues. Doctors used a less invasive procedure to remove the clot — and he left the hospital the next day, saying he is grateful for the careful attention he received.  Dayton Daily News

  • Brooke Bergman, a Versailles High School basketball player, suffered a car accident on September 18th, 2024 that caused a traumatic brain injury, broken bones and other injuries, and after a lengthy hospital stay and intensive rehab she returned to scrimmages this month—defying doctors’ expectations to rejoin her team.  Dayton Daily News
