- ➤ Wayne High School football standout Jamier Brown served hot meals with family and friends at Riverview Park on Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving — he has committed to Ohio State and is ranked the nation’s number two recruit. - ➤ Miami Valley Meals delivered 8,000 Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday at two local sites in Trotwood, while Wright State University hosted its 14th Raidersgiving meal for students and faculty—Miami Valley Meals will also be at the Dayton Arcade on December 11 for Holly Days with food donations welcomed. - ➤ Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is limiting pet intakes during kennel renovations that will last until the second week of December. The shelter will accept only court-ordered intakes while it seeks short-term foster volunteers and offers adoptions at 20 dollars through Dec. 13 + lost and found services will continue. WYSO
- ➤ Feast of Giving volunteers finished final preparations at the Dayton Convention Center today to serve up to 5,000 guests with 7,000 meals, improved safety measures, and family fun like a Santa visit with free RTA rides. - ➤ The Dayton VA Medical Center said it lost 19 employees to incentives and now has 200 job openings, while it filled every vacancy so far. Federal actions affecting the region may soon include $45 million for Wright-Patterson—pressures on Fuyao over labor concerns, local leaders receiving honorary citizenship in Sarajevo, food price adjustments before Thanksgiving, and efforts to unseal Epstein case records. - ➤ Counties in the Miami Valley reported fewer overdose deaths this year—some showing declines of nearly 40 percent—while Montgomery County saw drop from 566 deaths in 2017 to 177 in 2024, with about 130 recorded so far in 2025. Saraji Clay, an outreach specialist from Vandalia, shared her recovery story to highlight that even as fatal overdoses decrease, the need for harm reduction and free Naloxone programs remains critical. - ➤ A developer and Beavercreek have moved forward with a zoning change that allows up to 180 single-story apartment rentals on a 30-acre site near Wright-Patterson AFB, with initial plans for about 150 to 160 units.
