COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A community memorial honoring 49 fallen law enforcement officers is under construction near the Dayton Masonic Center — each panel weighs about 18,000 pounds as crews install them today and prepare the pavilion and sidewalks. The project, a regional effort led by local police, will have a dedication ceremony next May.  WHIO-TV
  • Feast of Giving organizers will serve at least 7,000 Thanksgiving Day meals at the Dayton Convention Center on Thursday, Nov. 27 to help families facing food insecurity after SNAP cuts. Local leaders plan to offer live music, children’s activities, and free transit rides (to help those in need) at the event.  Dayton Daily News
  • Kari Parker shared via email and Facebook that her grandpa James Erisman, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient who was shot in the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945, was honored with a statehouse resolution in Columbus on November 19.   • Stillwater Center’s Holiday Giving Tree returns to help residents fulfill holiday wishes with tags for items like toys, puzzles, and robes. Community members can view the tree at the Montgomery County Administration Building lobby or online and must deliver new, unwrapped gifts by Dec. 8—ensuring every resident feels cared for.  Montgomery County
  • Miamisburg Helping Hands has distributed 200 Thanksgiving meal boxes that include food staples and a $20 Kroger gift card as part of a drive by Crossroads Church — the food pantry will deliver 55 additional kits later this week ahead of the holiday.  Dayton Daily News
  • The Foodbank in partnership with AES Ohio and the AES Ohio Foundation is hosting a drive-thru free food giveaway today at its warehouse, 56 Armor Place in Dayton from 9 to 11 a.m.—each household will receive a holiday baking hen, fresh produce, and other pantry staples to help ease financial hardship before Thanksgiving.  Dayton Daily News

  • Dayton will host the Broadway musical Back to Future from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7 at the Schuster Center—11 trucks and 100 local stagehands bring in the production as it marks the film's 40th birthday.   • La Comedia is staging 'Scrooge: The Musical' to celebrate its 50th anniversary with an all-star cast led by Chris Beiser and a talented ensemble that delivers impressive set design and lighting. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County received $13 million from the state to fund a new Behavioral Health Unit at the county jail—announced by Governor DeWine—and to convert 226 general beds into a wing that will increase medical beds from 12 to 112. Construction began in October and will finish by mid-2027.  Montgomery County

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 35 million Americans have chronic kidney disease—up to 90% are unaware—and a new campaign titled "It Takes 2" urged complete testing to help reduce long-term complications.   • Gene Grant—owner of Pet Wants in Miamisburg—warned pet owners on Monday that some Thanksgiving foods are toxic to dogs. He advised Dayton residents to avoid these foods to keep their pets safe this holiday.  Dayton 24/7 Now
