- ➤ A neighborhood group donated a new plaza to Ruskin Elementary School in East Dayton to boost community pride and ease traffic for parent drop-offs and pick-ups. The $240,000 Ruskin Commons has paved walkways, an iron fence, decorative pillars and a mosaic of HOPE in eight languages and was paid for with federal ARPA funds and Community Development Block grants. - ➤ The tree — removed from Danner Avenue between Guthrie Road and Nicholas Road and sponsored by Premier Health — arrived at Courthouse Square last Thursday and will be decorated with colorful lights before being officially lit at the Dayton Holiday Festival Grande Illumination on November 28. - ➤ Daybreak held its Champions for Youth Luncheon on Thursday — celebrating 50 years as the Miami Valley's only youth homeless shelter and its range of support programs for 500 youth while Governor DeWine joined a discussion on homelessness and behavioral health. Dayton 24/7 Now
- ➤ Valley Food Relief called on Dayton donors to support local food pantries as families face challenges from rising costs, noting every dollar provides 4 meals. For over 40 years, the group has used donations to buy wholesale food for pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ Local public college enrollment has held steady as Miami University's enrollment dropped by about 1% and Wright State saw a small rise while Sinclair Community College grew by 6% with new degree programs—state records show roughly 450,000 students are enrolled across Ohio. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Robinson Thompson, a minister and former teacher who founded the Scholars of H.O.P.E. after-school program, was elected as the first Black woman on the West Carrollton School Board after receiving 32.2% of the 4,283 votes cast; she ran unopposed — knocking on doors to listen to constituents’ concerns. - ➤ The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will reopen today at 9 a.m. after the government shutdown ended — resuming normal hours with galleries, guest amenities and transit service while the Valkyrie Café opens tomorrow. Dayton 24/7 Now
- ➤ Dayton officials said the government shutdown ended on Wednesday night so WPAFB workers who had been furloughed for over a month will soon return to work. Leaders said the return of 38,000 employees each day is very important to both the local economy and national defense — a relief for the community. WHIO-TV
- ➤ Today, the FAA said flight cuts remain at 6% to ease safety issues amid continued air traffic controller shortages, affecting cancelations at Dayton International and other local airports. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said officials will review safety data and adjust restrictions once the system shows improvement—airlines expect operations to return to full capacity soon.
