COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beavercreek celebrated Veterans Day on Tuesday with an international military community—Col. Gerorgios Tzamalis of the Hellenic Air Force thanked U.S. veterans while officers from Chile, Norway, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Spain, Poland, and Japan were also present. Mayor Don Adams and Post Service officer Walter Chin urged the community to support veterans facing challenges like homelessness and isolation.  Dayton Daily News
  • Food pantries in Dayton are facing increased demand and shrinking supplies as federal funding cutbacks and rising food prices strain local services — Montgomery County now has over 85,000 residents at risk of food insecurity. Foodbank Inc. reported a surge in mobile pantry attendance and local leaders urged officials to boost support for those in need.  Dayton Daily News
  • Good Connections, a program run by Goodwill Easter Seals, is giving people with disabilities job training through a food truck and boutique — a soft opening for families is planned on Nov. 20 in Dayton.  Spectrum News 1

  • Joby Aviation is beginning to make air taxi propeller blades at its new facility at Dayton Airport — the company could produce up to 15,000 blades a year as it moves toward building 500 aircraft annually. The facility includes a quality lab and special clean areas to ensure each blade meets strict standards for noise reduction.  Spectrum News 1

  • Downtown Dayton will host a Broadway season at the Schuster Center as it presents a high-energy revival of The Wiz — a live performance of Prince’s Purple Rain — and a one-night reunion of three Broadway stars this season.   • Award-winning filmmaker and best-selling author Allen Wolf will hold a Q&A session and book signing at Barnes & Noble at The Shoppes at Beavercreek on November 15 at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate the 10th Anniversary Edition of his novel The Sound of Violet—an inspirational romance that has received a starred review for its heartwarming and humorous tone.  Dayton937.com
  • Acclaimed author, activist and art historian Sarah Lewis will deliver a keynote lecture at the John Legend Theater on Sunday as part of Westcott House's 20th anniversary restoration celebration—admission is free through a grant by the Thomas R.   • Dayton Christian School announced a new healthcare program that will give students hands-on lessons in modern health care. Head of School Matt Baker said the initiative is designed to enrich the curriculum for future learning.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Airman First Class Sterling E. Newsome Jr. will be laid to rest with full military honors at Dayton VA National Cemetery after his memorial service at Greater Allen AME Church at noon—almost 73 years after a transport plane crash took his life. Family members said his service continues to inspire them and honors the legacy of his generation.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Ohio families began receiving partial November SNAP benefits today as the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services processed $66.8 million for 364,000 households—over half of the expected recipients. ODJFS will continue issuing benefits in batches so all eligible households receive their benefits in the next few days.  WHIO-TV
  • Local residents in the Dayton area received partial SNAP payments on Wednesday after the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced benefits would resume following a government shutdown. Many said the reduced payments—about $100 to $200 less than expected—offered some relief amid rising food prices as legal challenges delay full assistance.  Dayton Daily News
