- ➤ In Miami Valley, the Gala of Hope Foundation distributed 100 personalized care packages + set up a $30,000 fund to help veterans receiving cancer treatment, while volunteers held indoor ceremonies in Miamisburg, Centerville and Beavercreek to thank those who served. - ➤ Deck the Diamond will run from November 14 until January 3 at Day Air Ballpark—transforming the venue into a holiday wonderland with over one million lights and synchronized music shows every 10 minutes. Guests will enjoy a 65-75 minute tour with themed activities such as train rides, scavenger hunts, live musical performances, and holiday treats. Dayton937.com
- ➤ The City of Centerville honored three veterans on Tuesday at Benham’s Grove Event Center after heavy snow moved the celebration from Stubbs Park. The veterans received a standing ovation from local attendees+ one veteran recalled his days as a paratrooper while another now helps fellow veterans transition to civilian life. WHIO-TV

- ➤ A new vendor will soon open at a popular area food hall as the founder of Top Knot Kitchen launches his latest concept — the move is set to add fresh flavor to the local dining scene. WHIO-TV
- ➤ Joby Aviation has opened a new Dayton plant near the airport that is now producing carbon propeller blades for its electric air taxis—these blades will be sent to its California facility where the aircraft will be built. The company expects to receive up to $325 million in state and local incentives and to create up to 2,000 jobs in the Miami Valley. WYSO
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Winters—born 100 years ago today—was a famous comedian who grew up in Springfield and made Dayton proud with his work as a DJ and entertainer. He served in World War II and later built his career in New York while keeping strong ties to his Ohio roots. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Oakwood's Wright family mansion, once home to Orville Wright, now has a new marker made of bronze and granite to honor its history. Visitors can tour the mansion on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a Wright at Home open house will be held on April 26. WYSO
- ➤ WWII veterans are fading from view as only 45,418 remain nationwide and about 1,600 live in Ohio, including 98-year-old Paul Hughes at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission deputy director Bryan Suddith said these veterans—one of only two still at the center—remind Dayton of a time when national pride and strong community service united people, and their legacy endures despite dwindling numbers. - ➤ The local school district announced on November 11 that families in need will receive food on a set distribution date, and officials said families should check with their schools for further details. WHIO-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central State University approved a $1.2 million appropriation (with $200,850 for fire alarm repairs, $850,000 for HVAC upgrades, and $150,000 for bathroom updates) on Monday to fix the issues in Foundation Hall II dormitory. The Ohio Controlling Board also approved $236,600 to hire Thomas Porter Architects to assess campus facilities and guide future maintenance. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Centerville has launched a new banner program to honor military service that was developed by VFW Post 9550 and the city, and it was unveiled at Veterans Day ceremonies with performances by community groups. - ➤ The state approved 2.5 million dollars on Monday to buy the old Hara Arena site in Trotwood and Harrison Township for a new mental health hospital called Miami Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. - ➤ Today, partial SNAP benefits will be credited to eligible recipients by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services—new federal guidance lowers maximum allotments by 35% and recalculates each household's amount.
