  • Blue Berry Cafe owner Kelly Andary began handing out free meals today in Kettering and Bellbrook to help local workers hit by the government shutdown—meals are prepared on Tuesday and given on Wednesday on a first come first served basis, with donations supporting the program for many weeks.  WHIO-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash knocked out power at a local restaurant and forced it to close temporarily, but management said it will reopen for lunch today at 11 a.m.  WHIO-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Day Air Ballpark has unveiled the Diamond Club — a new 5000 square foot venue with 110 outdoor seats that can host up to 225 guests for events like business meetings, holiday parties, or small weddings. Dragons President Robert Murphy said the addition is the largest in the ballpark’s 25-year history and is expected to boost downtown activity.  Dayton 24/7 Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Humane Society agents from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton executed a search warrant on West Main Street in New Lebanon following reports of a potential dog hoarding situation (46 dogs, puppies, and a few cats were removed from unsafe conditions) and the animals are now receiving veterinary evaluations and care (including food, vaccinations, and rehabilitation) while investigators consider filing animal cruelty charges.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Centerville Arts Commission member Terry O’Brien organized Dayton Holiday Hits for Hope, a free collection of holiday music by over 15 local artists available for streaming or download through January 1—donations help support Oasis House.   • Dayton native Shamya Sumlin— a 21-year-old aspiring screenwriter— published her first book Brothers and Sisters: A Memoir to Heaven, which tells her story of loss, family challenges and generational trauma.   • Dayton welcomes the Sugarplum Festival of Trees—Holiday Extravaganza Open House, a free event to kick off the holiday season that supports Dayton Children’s Hospital; visitors can enjoy photo opportunities with Santa, view decorated trees, and join an online auction to help meet a $1M mental health pledge.  Dayton937.com
  • ABC Night at the Museum is planned to offer more than 100 unique bourbons, an exquisite charcuterie spread by Eco Eatery, and a new lobby after dark—attendees will also bid in a silent auction for curated bourbon bundles that support educational experiences.  Dayton937.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huber Heights is finishing its new government center this month—city hall will close on Nov. 21 to allow a move with an open house scheduled for Dec. 9. The city will review plans on Nov. 10 for an indoor music venue called The Heights 2.0, expected to open in 2028, and a Dublin Pub estimated to open by St. Patrick’s Day.  Dayton Daily News
  • The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio voted Wednesday to raise AES Ohio distribution rates by 9% for customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours monthly. The settlement reached in August removed a reconnection fee and boosted the Gift of Power assistance program, and AES Ohio will file a new multi-year reliability plan.  Dayton Daily News
  • Late last week, over 8,100 civilian employees at Wright-Patterson received a new 30-day furlough notice due to the ongoing federal shutdown that began Oct. 1. The notice reaffirms that furloughed workers must not perform any duties and was followed up by supervisors — officials confirmed all employees received the message.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Voters in Dayton approved a tax levy that will raise $2 million each year over 10 years—intended to attract county, state and private funding to build a new public hospital after the closure of Good Samaritan Hospital. The levy will add about $35 per year in taxes for a $100,000 home.  WHIO-TV
  • Apple updated its Apple Watch to analyze heart-rate data for signs of chronic high blood pressure—a key risk factor for heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. Dr. Rajiv Kumar explained the new feature and its potential to help Dayton users monitor their health.  Dayton 24/7 Now
