  • Award-winning actor Joey Luthman launched a one-wheel cross-country ride to support EveryCat Health Foundation — he stopped in Dayton on Wednesday morning to join the Your Day crew live.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Mike Frazier, a native of Riverside and longtime Kettering resident, began volunteering at WYSO before taking over as the host of Morning Edition. He also performs as a stormtrooper during shows with Weird Al Yankovic and works with a local improv group—Life Unscripted Improv, which has an upcoming performance on Jan. 17.  WYSO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Renegade, an aerospace manufacturer, said it bought a nearly 20,000-square-foot building in Springboro for $1.5 million+ to add warehousing and administration space and meet rising commercial and defense demand+. The company said it will move into the building in 2027.  Dayton Daily News
  • Prime BBQ Smokehouse in Dayton has introduced a $5 menu to help furloughed federal workers during the government shutdown—serving pulled pork, chicken, smoked catfish sandwiches and offering free coffee for some while running a 'pay your rent' giveaway until the shutdown ends.   • Damon Darling, a comedian from Urbana, gained fame on social media and headlined the 'Nobody’s Perfect' tour in 2024—he is set to perform in Ohio on Nov. 26 and is looking into a comedy special, TV show, or movie to boost his career further.   • Grocers and retailers accepting SNAP funds are preparing for lower sales starting this weekend as a government shutdown cuts federal food assistance. The change could affect 1.4 million Ohioans and local stores like Homefull's Gettysburg Grocery are using signage to inform customers—adding pressure on community food support systems.  Dayton Daily News

  • Beavercreek City Schools superintendent Paul Otten was named Ohio Superintendent of the Year by the Buckeye Association of School Administrators after his work in founding the Air Force Junior ROTC & launching new career technology programs, including cybersecurity & education technology. He will now compete for National Superintendent of the Year at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference in February.  Dayton Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 50,000 military families in the Miami Valley requested emergency food aid as the government shutdown continues. Shannon Razsadin—CEO of the Military Family Advisory Network—said the group is working to help service members with their grocery needs.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • GoBus will expand service from Dayton, Yellow Springs, Springfield and Middletown to include stops in 47 counties, allowing riders to reach cities such as Bowling Green, Findlay, Lima, Kenton, Bellefontaine, Columbus, Cleveland, Sandusky, Athens, Wheeling and Pittsburgh. The expansion, administered by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action’s transportation division using federal funds and operating 56-seat coaches with wifi—restrooms and electric outlets available—will help residents including college students, though specific stop locations and timeline have not yet been announced.  Dayton Daily News

  • ICP is set to rebrand the Miami Twp. LexisNexis campus as The Pike by remodeling lobbies — including a new parking lot — and planning mixed-use zoning that could bring restaurants and a hotel. The campus currently hosts about 800 to 1,000 workers on weekdays and has welcomed new tenants such as Sierra Nevada Corp, Accelevation, and Total Quality Logistics.  Dayton Daily News
  • Spinoso Real Estate Group — with Kiza Capital — purchased the 1.1 million-square-foot Mall at Fairfield Commons from Washington Prime Group after six months on the market. The new owners plan to reinvest in the mall and drive growth, with Dillard’s set to open on March 19 and current tenants including Dick’s House of Sport, JCPenney, Victoria’s Secret, and Bath & Body Works.  Dayton Daily News

  • Coach Danny Diceanu said the Troy girls soccer team ended its 15-3-1 season sharing the MVL Miami Division title with Butler and Tippecanoe—while the boys team won the league outright with a 13-5-1 record and an 8-0-1 league performance.
