EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Huber Heights City Schools received a $330,000 donation from Marcus Freeman — a Wayne graduate and current Notre Dame football coach — to renovate the weight room at Wayne High School, officials said earlier this month. WHIO-TV
- ➤ Wayne High School upgraded its career technical education facilities with a $2M grant that funded the construction of a new robotics, automation and manufacturing lab and the renovation of its engineering lab—now fitted with computers, CAD software, 3D printers, laser engravers and aerospace equipment. Nearly 800 students enrolled in career technical courses will have the chance to explore these new tools at an open house tentatively set for February 2026. Dayton Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The ongoing federal shutdown may cut funding for food aid, childcare and health support for many Dayton-area families—programs like SNAP, WIC and Head Start could be delayed after November 1. Local officials have already shifted funds to the food bank and continue processing benefits, but some early education programs could close if the impasse continues. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Dayton Police will open a temporary substation next to the RTA hub by March 2026 as part of a plan to build a new permanent station on property at East 4th and South St. Clair. Thirty officers will patrol downtown next year and the permanent station will open late 2028 or early 2029 — a step taken after community calls for more safety. Dayton 24/7 Now

- ➤ Overbrook Landing—a new 99-bed skilled nursing center for long term care and rehabilitation—opened in Beavercreek Twp today. The facility cost a $20 million investment and offers all-private rooms while planning to open more applications in the coming months. Dayton Daily News
