  • Hundreds gathered Monday at Gateway Cathedral in Dayton to honor 5-year-old Legaci Taylor, who was fatally shot two weeks ago while in a car with her father—whose case remains under investigation with no suspects identified.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Dolly’s, part of the Big Boy Restaurant Group, will close its six Miami Valley restaurants in Troy and Miamisburg on Oct. 23—ongoing litigation over rights to former Frisch’s sites has made it unsustainable to continue operations in the Dayton and Cincinnati markets.  WHIO-TV
  • The Flavor House, formerly known as 1Eleven Flavor House, reopens today at 130 W. Second St. near Schuster Center for a soft opening serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. until Oct 22 & the owners plan to add dinner hours and a pickup area soon, with a new menu that features upgraded Caribbean, creole and comfort favorites.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 200 Springfield High School students packed more than 42,000 meals for children in Lesotho on October 20 in partnership with the Lesotho Nutrition Initiative — the record-breaking effort marked the seventh consecutive year of student involvement.  WYSO
  • Kettering City Schools revealed a 10-year plan to build new schools and reduce its 12 buildings to seven after concerns over aging facilities were raised at a recent forum at Van Buren Middle School. The plan will replace two middle schools with one at Fairmont campus—aiming for a new middle school by 2027-28 and a rebuilt high school wing by 2030—and a bond vote on the May primary ballot will help fund the project.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new partnership between YWCA Dayton and Eastway Behavioral Healthcare is bringing on-site mental health care to children at the domestic violence shelter — including a full-time case manager and licensed therapist. The program will also offer group classes for kids and parenting support to help families heal.  Spectrum News 1
  • Kettering Health told customers today it will stop birth deliveries, including midwifery, at Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek because births are down in the region. Its OB-GYN office will remain open for outpatient visits while deliveries and C-sections will be scheduled at two other locations.  Dayton Daily News
