  • Hundreds gathered at Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton on Saturday to protest what they described as authoritarian power grabs—many protestors expressed concerns about the influence of billionaires and major corporations on democracy. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven candidates are running for the Lebanon Schools Board of Education—Jennifer Daulton and Esther Banta Larson will compete for one seat while Jessi Ellis-Alvarez, Michael Gliatti, Roy MacCutcheon, Ian McPherson and Danielle Schultz are in a five-person race for two seats. Each candidate has shared priorities such as improving academics, maintaining fiscal responsibility and supporting teachers.  Dayton Daily News

  • On October 18th, gentle mini cows visited Liberty Place memory care facility and brought comfort, joy and many smiles to residents — brightening spirits with their calming presence.  WHIO-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dayton’s Flyers ended their five-game winning streak with a 23-17 loss to Butler at Welcome Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Running back Luke Hansen ran for 105 yards and quarterback Bryce Schondelmyer left with a shoulder injury — he did not return, and the Flyers will host Presbyterian on Oct. 25 at noon.  WHIO-TV
  • On Friday night, a Bellefontaine high school football player suffered a neck injury and concussion after losing consciousness from a hit during a game and was airlifted by medics to Miami Valley Hospital; his family said he is recovering while his team prayed for him.  WHIO-TV
  • A student athlete from the Urbana Hillclimbers was flown to Miami Valley Hospital after being injured during Friday night’s Bellefontaine game—first responders called Careflight around 9:23 p.m. and the athletic director confirmed his condition is stable.  Dayton 24/7 Now
