- ➤ The Artemis Center has helped about 5,000 domestic violence survivors and their children each year for 40 years by offering crisis intervention, legal support and safety planning. Supported by a new grant, the center will soon also help sexual assault survivors and will host a Breaking the Cycle fundraiser breakfast at 8 a.m. Oct. 16 at Sinclair’s Conference Center — strengthening its role in local support. - ➤ Last week the Dayton Foodbank delivered 60 emergency food boxes to furloughed employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base because the government shutdown affected workers. - ➤ Amy Wamsley, a Wright State alum, swam the English Channel last summer to mark her 50th birthday and her lifelong dream while raising awareness of water conservation and body image. - ➤ A Hamilton woman's dog was found carrying the invasive Asian long-horned tick in Butler County, where it has not been reported before – the tick reproduces rapidly and can spread serious diseases to pets and people.
