- ➤ Volunteers led by Army veteran Brenda Tolle and retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Neil Reinsmoen have worked to preserve local history by cleaning, repairing and resetting hundreds of tombstones in 10 Greene County cemeteries since 2022—soon reaching 937 restored graves at Stewart Cemetery. - ➤ Xenia nonprofit Emerge Recovery and Trade Initiative serves over 120 clients each day by providing job training, transitional housing, life skills and clinical services to former foster youth and people in recovery. The organization will begin a $4.8 million renovation — including roof replacement, HVAC updates and the installation of solar panels — to expand vocational programs and housing with part of the funding coming from a $750,000 JobsOhio grant. - ➤ Westrafo opened its first American plant in Trotwood after a groundbreaking ceremony 14 months ago; the 231,000-square-foot facility at an 85-acre site will create 230 jobs in the next two years—adding to over $50 million already invested. - ➤ An Italian power company, Westrafo, will open its first North American plant in Trotwood today at a new industrial park near Wolf Creek Pike — Olive Road, and the facility is expected to create 230 jobs. - ➤ Police used mace on high school players from the Cardinal Ritter Lions after a game with the Massillon Tigers last Friday in Massillon — officers said the tactic stopped a push-and-shove fight and one player, DJ, said it burned his eyes and made him drop to his knees. WHIO-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Ohio has given large tax credits to companies like Honda and Joby Aviation near Dayton to build factories and create jobs—though a new report from Policy Matters Ohio argues that these credits, now costing over $1.2B yearly, may not be worth the slow job growth and project delays seen at places like Intel’s chip facility.
