  • Memorial Hall in Dayton was transferred to Montgomery County Community Improvement Corp on Tuesday & will be preserved as a community asset that honors its history; the group will soon choose a private developer to plan new uses that protect its memorial features.  WYSO
  • Many Ohio communities have set their Halloween trick-or-treat hours, and Dayton will hold trick-or-treating on Oct 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—Spectrum News 1 compiled the list as updates are expected.  Spectrum News 1
  • Sidney Police Officer Josh Bayer and his team rescued three young girls and a family friend from a strong river current near the Stanley bridge when local residents reported distress, and the officers—assisted by a firefighter and fellow responders—used a rope to bring them to safety.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • China Dynasty, a popular Chinese restaurant in Centerville on the 9100 block of Dayton Lebanon Pike, will close its doors on Wednesday, October 15 as owners Stephen and Sophia Lin retire due to ongoing health issues. The Lin family thanked loyal customers for years of support—marking the end of an era that began in 1995.  WHIO-TV
  • Dewey's Pizza and Skyline Chili will offer the Skyline Dip Deluxe pizza from October 8 to October 20—made with a cream cheese base, Skyline Chili, mozzarella, mild cheddar, red beans, diced white onions, sour cream, fresh tomatoes, and green onions—and customers can add house-pickled jalapeños and Skyline hot sauce for extra spice.  WHIO-TV

  • High school students took the PSAT, and Senior VP Priscilla Rodriguez joined a Zoom session on Wednesday morning to explain how the test connects them with college, career, and scholarship opportunities—guiding students and families as they prepare for future success.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton remains closed today because of the government shutdown — all events are suspended until lawmakers pass a continuing resolution or appropriation bill.  WHIO-TV
  • The Montgomery County Building Regulations department is proposing a new fee schedule to fund technology upgrades and better staff pay—two public hearings on Oct 21 and Oct 28 will let residents share their views. If approved, the changes will take effect on Jan. 1.  Montgomery County
  • Food banks and family services in Montgomery County are monitoring the government shutdown as current supplies keep services running through October. The Dayton Foodbank serves 122 nonprofits + officials plan to notify clients if services change in November.  WHIO-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Tandemstride tours hospitals in Ohio to help trauma survivors connect with support and resources that aid recovery. The digital platform has reached over 5,000 survivors and raised $5.5 million to build its TandemGuides program — which gives help with groceries, transportation, child care and mental health.  Spectrum News 1
  • On October 1st, Samantha Redden, a trainer at XO Fitness and Wellness, joined the Your Day broadcast to share details of the fall schedule—highlighting new classes and training sessions for local residents.
