  • Sheetz opened its 11th location at 4840 Needmore Road, its second in Dayton, offering a menu that features items like the Big MozzMac N’ Cheese Bitez. Today, the chain is hosting a grand opening celebration starting at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting at 10:45 a.m.—customers enjoy free self-serve coffee and soda and a chance to help The FoodBank and Special Olympics of Ohio with a $2,500 donation each.  Dayton Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ryan “Hank” Henry, a makeup artist at Brimstone Haunt near the Ohio Renaissance Festival, is starting his 24th season and is known for creative looks like Zipperface and zombie styles—he works with a team that now uses a makeup card system to match costumes. Brimstone Haunt is open Fridays and Saturdays until Nov. 1 and features rides, games and special effects that give guests a full-sensory scare.  Dayton Daily News

  • Fifth Third Bank will open a new location in the Greater Dayton area while Montgomery County Land Bank will launch an initiative to help locals achieve homeownership—Caleb Stephens of the Dayton Business Journal provided the details.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike DeWine signed a new driver's education law that requires drivers under 21 to finish 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training and a state-approved course — the law funds training centers and offers a free app to help parents supervise teen drivers, aiming to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.  Spectrum News 1
  • After federal funding ended on Sept. 30, key defense work at Wright-Patt continued because munitions, maintenance and intelligence activities were spared from shutdown—Dayton Rep. Mike Turner later introduced a bill to shift the funding schedule to match the calendar year.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kettering Health announced Tuesday that it will end its contracts with Humana and Devoted Health on Dec. 31 because their practices did not align with its values—patients will be able to switch plans during the Annual Coordinated Election Period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 with changes taking effect Jan. 1, 2026.  Spectrum News 1
