- ➤ Bunkers Sports Bar and Grill in Vandalia, which opened in June 1995 as a welcoming spot for families, will mark 30 years on Oct. 4—featuring live DJs, giveaways, and a new light beer launch. The restaurant, owned by Mary Lou Kreusch and her daughter Leann Kreusch McLaughlin, has grown into a local hub where customers leave as friends. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center in Dayton reported that it has more than 100 dogs even though it was built for about 80—so it is only taking court-ordered intakes and urging residents to adopt or foster the animals. Spectrum News 1
- ➤ On Monday, two local groups partnered to fit homeless youth and young adults with new shoes at Daybreak Dayton—helping to improve foot health and stability. The groups plan to make this event a lasting community resource for those facing housing and health challenges. Dayton 24/7 Now

- ➤ Acclaimed writer Salman Rushdie will receive the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation’s top honor—the Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award—at a ceremony scheduled for (Nov. 8) as part of the awards’ 20th anniversary. The prizes honor writers whose work fosters peace, social justice and global understanding, with fiction and nonfiction winners receiving $10,000 and runners-up $5,000. WYSO

- ➤ Montgomery County leaders met Monday to discuss a property tax relief plan that aims to ease the burden on homeowners by using targeted programs for seniors, low-income residents, and caps on rising assessments. The plan, developed by the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio, shifts funding to the state and now goes to the General Assembly for review + possible adjustments. WHIO-TV
- ➤ A potential government shutdown may lead to delays and furloughs for workers at Wright-Patterson and other local federal operations—most essential staff will work while nonessential employees may be furloughed if the shutdown lasts.
