  • John North, a longtime Dayton native and president of the BBB, died on Saturday. He led the group with dedication and mentored local leaders—his board appointed Christy Mauch to manage the transition and will share plans to honor his life soon.  Dayton Daily News
  • John Goris, a local father and founder of Rachel & Friends and A New You Total Wellness, created programs that empower adults with developmental disabilities and boost community inclusion.   • A new study found that over half of Ohio's small businesses launched in 2019 survived for five years and that the state tied for fifth nationwide with a 55% survival rate (this compares favorably to a national average of about 51%).  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the Winsupply Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from local business leaders who show creativity and take risks to boost the economy. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Board of Elections asked Director Jeff Rezabek to explore new office options in the administration building as removal of the escalators in 2027 may affect voter flow, especially for early voting and those with mobility issues. Rezabek said the board is considering moving to the first floor or the Southview building before the spring election—aiming to ensure safe and easy access for all voters.  Dayton Daily News
  • Kettering is offering free and low-cost home repair help for eligible homeowners with a zero-percent interest loan that is forgiven after five years and free lead paint abatement for houses built before 1978 — with city staff guiding residents through repairs and contractor selection to ensure quality work.   • Downtown property owners approved a five-year extension of the Special Improvement District fees that fund sidewalk cleaning, beautification, safety patrols, and business support, though some owners argue that funds like those spent on CURIO should instead go directly to police bike patrols—raising concerns over downtown safety.
