  • On Saturday afternoon, over 20,000 rubber ducks raced at Dayton’s 22nd-annual Hispanic Heritage Festival to raise tens of thousands of dollars for vital disability services—families sponsored duck entries along the Great Miami River in one of United Rehabilitation Services’ largest fundraisers.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • A boy who was lost on Saturday afternoon was found near Huber Heights Fire Division around 1:40 p.m. and was safely reunited with his family after police kept him at the fire station—he appeared non-verbal at the time.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Ron Budzik, the former Vice President of Government Affairs at Mead Corporation, died on Sept. 12 at age 83—he helped turn the empty Rike’s—Lazarus building into the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center while serving on several Dayton boards. A memorial mass is scheduled for Oct. 11 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with a celebration of his life to follow and donations requested for the Budzik-Hayde Family Fund.  WHIO-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hamilton, Franklin, Montgomery—and 15 other counties in Ohio are under quarantine for the spotted lanternfly that is hurting vineyards, orchards and gardens. The Ohio Department of Agriculture urged residents to squish any spotted lanternfly they see to help protect the agriculture industry.  Dayton 24/7 Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • UD trailed 14-7 in the fourth quarter but scored 10 points to take a 17-14 lead—this comeback win in Moon Township improved their record to 2-1 and set them up for a Sept 27 game against Stetson at Welcome Stadium.  WHIO-TV
  • Thousands of runners finished the 29th annual Air Force Marathon at the National Museum of the US Air Force—runners ran a course through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and ended in front of historic aircraft, with race director Chris Meister saying a year-long planning effort made the race possible.  Dayton 24/7 Now
