  • The Downtown Dayton Partnership invites local groups, performers and community partners to apply online for the 53rd annual Dayton Holiday Festival Parade, which will take place November 28 after the tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m.—applications are due by September 29 with selections announced on October 6.  WHIO-TV

  • Costco recalled its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene wine because unopened bottles may shatter unexpectedly—customers in Ohio and other states who bought the product between April 25 and August 26 were warned to dispose of it safely and return it for a full refund.   • The Montgomery County Board of Elections celebrated National Voter Registration Day and urged Dayton residents to register by October 6th for local elections that include the mayoral race and a public hospital levy. The board invites the public to watch a setup test on September 18th—military absentee voting begins September 19th, early in-person and mail voting starts October 7th, and election day is November 4th.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Montgomery County commissioners approved a nearly $20 million contract for a new behavioral health unit at the county jail to improve treatment and safety—construction will begin in October and finish in 2027 to boost resources for inmates and staff.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • The Trotwood Fire Department led a large water rescue and recovery exercise at Madison Lake today with several specialized agencies to practice real-life rescue techniques. Teams used equipment like side-scanning sonar + submersible drones to simulate rescue scenarios + ensuring faster emergency responses.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Beavercreek native Brig. Gen. Douglas 'Beaker' Wickert has taken on a new role as director of Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations at the Air Force Materiel Command headquarters at Wright-Patt—returning him to Ohio after his command of the 412th Test Wing. In his new position he will shape the workforce and manage resources for test, cyber, and flight operations.  Dayton Daily News

  • Dayton Children's Hospital is offering free carseat checks during Child Passenger Safety Week from Sept. 21 to Sept. 27 — certified technicians will inspect carseats at Dayton Children’s Connor Health Pavilion on Sept. 23 and at Shelby County Health District on Sept. 27.   • At a town hall meeting at Shiloh Baptist Church, state and local leaders did not provide clear plans for the future of nursing homes in Dayton’s urban areas, leaving residents like trucking company owner Hill unsure about immediate steps.
