  • Local organizations are joining forces this month to fight food insecurity in Montgomery County by hosting events that support 85,000 vulnerable residents—especially seniors and families in need. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Skyline Chili is adding a new chicken chili that will be sold at participating Dayton and Cincinnati Kroger stores, on Amazon, and at Skyline restaurants—starting September 22. Its beef chili will stay on the menu and the new option retains the same legendary flavor while being added to items like the cheese coney and 3-way.  WHIO-TV
  • Today, Launch Dayton Startup Week brought local businesses together as entrepreneur Arias of Today’s Table relaunched her meal prep service using eco-friendly packaging—plant-based or recyclable—and protein-rich meals for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.   • Dayton officials with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services warn local residents that bitcoin scams via phone calls and texts are on the rise—scammers use fake websites to trick people into sending irreversible funds.  WHIO-TV

  • Trans-Siberian Orchestra announced their 2025 winter tour Ghosts of Christmas Eve in Dayton with an all-new production and a special tribute—members Al Pitrelli and Kayla Reeves explained the details Monday morning.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Dean McFarlin, a former University of Dayton professor who co-wrote House of Mirrors: The Untold Truth about Narcissistic Leaders and How to Survive Them with Paul Sweeney in 2001, explained that a little narcissism in leaders can work in their favor while too much becomes harmful—an idea that remains relevant today. The interview was published yesterday as part of the Book Nook series airing on weekends on WYSO.  WYSO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio report cards released Monday show Oakwood and Bellbrook-Sugarcreek schools scoring among the highest—while Dayton Public Schools received 2 stars, similar to past ratings. Other districts such as Springfield Local and Jefferson Township Local improved their scores—using measures like achievement and progress to guide their ratings.  Dayton Daily News
  • Miami Valley Career Tech Center added AI to its curriculum this school year after local business leaders highlighted its benefits; teachers now receive training from an outside contractor and support from an in-house AI tech team—helping students learn to use AI safely while protecting their data.  Dayton Daily News

  • Federal tax credits for energy-saving upgrades, like solar panels and heat pumps, will end by the end of this year, and homeowners are urged to act fast as Rewiring America starts the Save on Better Appliances campaign to help them save money (Ari Matusiak shared practical tips in a recent interview).  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Attorney General’s Office told Miami Twp. officials it will start removal proceedings against fiscal officer Bob Matthews for using township funds in unauthorized gold coin deals—strong evidence was found by the state auditor. The legal process will begin on Oct. 24 when a complaint is filed, and Matthews said he will try to negotiate a settlement.  Dayton Daily News
  • Sgt. Jonathon Sopczak was named FOP Active Member of the Year at the statewide conference for his work supporting the Dayton Police and ensuring their needs are met—he works in the Homicide Unit and has a personal connection to his role after his family was affected by gun violence.  Dayton 24/7 Now
