- ➤ Jenny McCarty, executive director of The Common Good, was honored as a Community Gem for her dedication to serving people in Preble County; she is now expanding services by renovating the thrift store and planning a move to a new building at 114 N. Cherry St.—nearly double the size of the current space—to offer life skills classes and additional community programs by the end of this year or early next year. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ Beyond Grocery is hosting Flyer Fest today at Dayton Arcade—featuring local vendors, a live DJ, art tours from The Contemporary Dayton, kid-friendly activities, photo experiences and giveaways. The cashless store—founded by a UD alumnus—will hold a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. and a line dancing party from 4 to 5 p.m. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business has been named one of the nation’s best on-campus MBA programs by The Princeton Review in its annual Best Business Schools for 2025 report—students praise the program for its quality and its flexible evening and weekend class schedule. - ➤ Bellbrook High School senior Laney Bottemiller earned a scholarship to the U.S. Air Force Flight Academy and spent eight weeks at Iowa Lakes Community College learning to fly a Cessna 172 this past summer—she now plans to build her skills with Civil Air Patrol and work toward becoming a fighter pilot after graduation. - ➤ Staff from the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens and representatives from the Ohio Division of Wildlife rescued 24 box turtles from a West Carrollton school courtyard scheduled for demolition after the school year. Zoo veterinarians will care for the turtles through fall until they are released in spring. WHIO-TV

- ➤ A winning lottery ticket worth $25K was sold at a local store using the numbers 5, 40, 42, 47, and 48 and lucky ball 10, reported on September 13th at 7:10 p.m. local time — lottery officials have not yet released additional details. WHIO-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, local first responders conducted an emergency preparedness drill simulating a school shooting at Kiser Elementary School — over two dozen officers, firefighters, and medics worked with more than 50 volunteer actors to test response plans. Benjamin Goodstein said the drill identified weak spots and opportunities for improvement to guide future training. WHIO-TV
