- ➤ Today the inaugural 9/11 Softball Classic took place at the Action Sports Center, honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001—organized by Mylian Hodges who recalled his Wilberforce University experience—and all funds raised will support local police and fire departments. WHIO-TV
- ➤ Daybreak Dayton has named Courtney Patel as its new CEO—she will officially start on Oct. 6 after meeting staff to boost the social services organization's visibility in the community. Patel plans to renew services for over 500 youth and build partnerships as she leads the Champions for Youth Brunch on Nov. 13 to celebrate Daybreak's 50th anniversary. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Today, several 9/11 memorial events take place across the Miami Valley to honor the victims of the 2001 attacks—an 8:30 a.m. ceremony in Beavercreek, an 8:30 a.m. run at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a 9 a.m. event in Fairborn, a dedication in Germantown from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and flag placement events at the University of Dayton later in the day. - ➤ Joby Aviation Inc., building a manufacturing site near Dayton International Airport, will join the Uber app next year by launching Blade’s air mobility services—offering quiet, zero-emission air taxi rides for urban passengers. - ➤ Dayton startup Unlisted was chosen from thousands to join TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield 200 and will pitch its new real estate platform for unsold homes at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco late October—its soft launch recently gained strong support without any paid promotion. - ➤ Dayton Scream Park, known as Ohio’s longest single haunt, will open Friday, Sept 12 as owner Compton invests nearly $100,000 in two new scenes housed in semi trailers to refresh its 24th season — the park will operate Fridays and Saturdays until Nov. 1 and host a trunk-or-treat event on Oct 23. - ➤ PACO Dayton will host a Hispanic Heritage Festival on September 20th at RiverScape MetroPark from 11 AM to 11 PM where families will enjoy food, music, dance + cultural activities that support local community programs. - ➤ Snapchat introduced its new online safety education program 'The Keys' yesterday in Dayton to help teens and parents learn to communicate safely online. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington Twp. will revamp Countryside Park with a $5.2M multi-phase project, starting in fiscal year 2025 when Gateway Plaza will feature a spray park, pavilion, ticket booth, restrooms and covered walkways linking the RecPlex buildings. In 2026, the township will add a new entrance via Paragon Road with over an acre of green space, parking, sidewalks and asphalt trails—further improvements will follow in later years based on community input. - ➤ West Carrollton got a new police chief on Tuesday when Deputy Chief David Wessling was sworn in at a city council meeting—administered by Mayor Rick Barnhart and succeeding the retiring Chief David Woodard. - ➤ After a three-year beautification effort, Butler Township rebranded the Miller Lane business corridor as Benchwood Station with a $6 million project that added a roundabout, updated signals, and new gateway signage—meant to improve safety and welcome new businesses. - ➤ Montgomery County voters will choose from over 30 contested races on November 4 — including local judges, mayors, council and trustee seats — and they must register by Oct 6 to vote.
