  • 1572 Roadhouse Bar-B-Q in Waynesville is preparing for the Ohio Renaissance Festival—where the restaurant will serve more than four times its typical orders. Pitmaster Lisa Jones starts early each festival day and the restaurant offers smoked meats, craft beers—along with prime rib and blackberry cobbler—to meet the high demand from visitors.  Dayton Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Dayton police responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of Ernst Avenue — Newport Avenue around 9:20 p.m. on September 5th.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A University of Dayton researcher got a $1.41 million grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to build a system that uses cameras and sound sensors—designed to alert workers of danger—in work zones. He will test it with partners from Case Western Reserve and the University of Cincinnati before the system is used on live job sites.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Kettering City Schools is finalizing a plan to consolidate schools and build new facilities based on an assessment by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission; the district invited residents and families to a community forum at Fairmont High School on Sept. 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—a school tour will follow. The plan may replace two middle schools with one building and update the high school’s academic wing as part of efforts to prepare for future enrollment while working with the city to improve campus traffic.  Dayton Daily News
  • A generous donation from Kettering Health boosted nursing education at Cedarville University—Dr. Angie Mickle and Tracey Haines said the funds will help local students and support healthcare programs worldwide.   • Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial Association is installing 30-foot steel spires on Riverview Avenue this week to start a $2 million project that honors fallen and serving police officers near the Dayton Masonic Center—engineered designs from a nationwide arts competition will later be joined by a granite wall engraved with the names of fallen officers.  Dayton Daily News

  • Agnes has extended its late-night hours to serve until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday after moving to the Oregon District—offering popular Caribbean dishes such as its well-known oxtail bowl and coco bread sandwiches.  Dayton Daily News
