  • The RTA and ATU Local 1385 completed a school supply drive from July 21 to August 11 that filled an RTA paratransit bus with backpacks, supplies, and snacks for the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton—Foodbank Inc. helped sort the donations amid space limits at the club due to facility improvements.  WHIO-TV
  • Larry Draughn, a Dayton native and Marine Corps veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan from an IED, recovered with help from America’s Fund — and now plays sled hockey and ice hockey while living in Riverside with his family.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Capabilities, a play space in West Carrollton that welcomes children of all abilities, opened in November 2023 and now faces low summer admissions, equipment repairs, and rising bills—owner Lindsey Gabriel seeks community support through memberships and donations to keep the space open and expand its programs.  Dayton Daily News

  • The National Road Safety Foundation and partner groups in Dayton have launched a campaign to turn the summer’s 100 deadliest days into the 100 safest days—teen driving crashes have increased by 15 percent, with an average of eight fatalities per day.   • Officers arrived near a Dayton apartment complex after a shelter-in-place order was issued in connection with a wanted person, with Montgomery County Regional Dispatchers confirming SWAT presence.  WHIO-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • About $78 million in state grant funding has been awarded to Dayton International Airport for a defense and aerospace campus that will use the funds to prepare 150 acres of city-owned land, upgrade airport aprons, reopen taxiways, and improve road access with a new roundabout at Peters Pike and Lightner Road — projects expected to create between 2,000 and 6,000 new jobs. The state grant is part of the All Ohio Future Fund and comes as partners, including Joby Aviation, plan additional investments in the region.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dayton Children’s Hospital will manage the newborn intensive care unit at Kettering Health Main Campus starting this fall. Hospital leaders said the collaboration aims to lower infant mortality and improve care for babies—helping families stay together during early treatment.  Dayton Daily News
