CRIME NEWS

  • A man was hospitalized after being shot while trying to break up a fight—police reported that no suspects are in custody.  WHIO-TV
  • A 21-year-old man was seriously hurt in a stabbing in Dayton on Aug. 16 just before 1:45 a.m.—an officer applied a tourniquet that likely saved his life while police arrested his 36-year-old boyfriend on charges of felonious assault and tampering with evidence.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield High School has partnered with Ohio State University to launch a medical mentorship program where OSU students meet monthly with about six pre-med students to offer tips on testing and applications — preparing them for future careers in medicine.  WHIO-TV
  • Wright State University held a lively move-in day Monday morning as more than 2,400 students settled into dorms on its Dayton campus—the largest on-campus group in over 10 years—and also reopened the renovated Jacob Hall, which had closed after a fire two years ago.   • Local health centers in Dayton say Medicaid changes will not affect care until 2027 — they worry that patients may fall behind due to confusion over benefits.
