CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police responded to a shooting—reported at a county fair in Ohio— on August 10th at 9:31 a.m., and the investigation is underway. WHIO-TV
- ➤ On August 9th, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Range Task Force and FBI Cincinnati seized 38 kilograms of fentanyl, other drugs, guns, and cash from a major drug trafficking organization—no further details have been released. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ During a traffic stop yesterday in Dayton, police with the help of a K9 found a loaded 9mm handgun — cocaine and fentanyl were also discovered in the car. WHIO-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ West Carrollton will open its new 97,281-square-foot elementary school next week—holding an open house Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m.—and it will serve second through fourth-grade students starting Aug.20. The facility replaces Harry Russell and Harold Schnell Elementary with modern classrooms, improved security, and energy-efficient features. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Dayton Public Schools students are carpooling, walking, or buying their own passes this school year after the district stopped purchasing bus passes for high school students because of a state law change. The district is also working with transportation and community leaders to explore ways to help students get home after after-school activities. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Dayton Public Schools launched its new alternative school at the Jackson Center on Abbey Avenue for students who need extra social-emotional support, home instruction, or disciplinary placement. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Environmental Learning Center has launched the "Away is Somewhere" campaign to teach students and families to reduce waste and recycle using interactive tools and lesson plans—local waste collectors note much of the trash can be reused, recycled or composted.
