  • A suspected arson fire damaged a playground at the 1300 block of East Fifth Street at Bomberger Park early Sunday, where firefighters found only three swings, a small slide, and a dinosaur remaining—local crews cleared debris as the community plans to rebuild while officials investigate the cause.  WHIO-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dayton is seeing construction on the onMain project at the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds as the University of Dayton and Premier Health work together to transform a 37-acre site into a mixed-use development. The project received a $35 million state award for an Innovation Hub — plans include new streets, utilities, and community spaces.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Children and Youth is reviewing how Clark and Montgomery County Public Children Services handled the case of 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum after remains were found near the McClure Street bridge on July 12—Michael Kendrick and Ashley Johnson are in jail with court proceedings set for today.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified human remains from a cooler found near Manning Road and Anthony Road in Jackson Township (discovered at 7:37 p.m. Sunday) as 28-year-old Brittany Fuhr-Storms, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit is investigating the case (cause and manner of death remain undetermined).  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Greater Dayton RTA is adding a new electric trolley route — Route 3 — that will run from the Eastown Transit Center through downtown to Dayton Children’s Hospital starting August 31. The agency will also modify Routes 1 and 6 effective August 31 so Route 1 now ends at Eastown Transit Center while Route 6 serves Wright State University and Pentagon Boulevard.  WYSO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Kentucky-based housing developer will invest $45 million to build a 118-unit assisted senior living facility on the former site of Orville Wright Elementary in East Dayton. The project will include a mix of studio and one-bedroom units with community amenities and open space, and construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and finish late 2027 (the units will serve seniors earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income).  Dayton Daily News
