COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 28, Sweet Retreat held an event to honor 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum that raised over $1,000 for a memorial bench and garden at Ruskin Elementary after community funds already covered his funeral costs; the ice cream shop (which donated $1,281) also introduced a special sundae as the school plans to create Hershall’s Garden for remembrance and healing.  WDTN

  • Dayton Public Schools said that for the 2025-2026 school year, they will not buy RTA bus passes for about 4,000 high school students because state law forbids paying for fares, so families must cover transportation costs (each one-way ride costs $2.20) or find another way to get their kids to school. The district will still offer bus rides for students who are homeless, in group homes or in foster care.  WYSO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dayton Children’s Hospital raised a record-breaking $85 million in donations that exceeded its $75 million goal to support mental health, advanced care and removal of health barriers for children through its do. more. so all kids thrive campaign.
