  • The Dayton Dragons announced a holiday lights show called Deck the Diamond at Day Air Ballpark that will run from Nov. 14 to Jan. 3 and feature nightly synchronized music and light shows along with a 44 foot Christmas tree. Visitors can enjoy fire pits for roasting s'mores, scavenger hunts and carnival games for kids — all designed to bring extra fun to the season.  WDTN
  • For Love of Children received a large donation Friday from MAHLE Group that provided hundreds of suitcases to help kids who lose their belongings when they are forced into foster care—this gift gives the children a chance to keep their things and their dignity.  Dayton 24/7 Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi hit a man fueling his pickup on U.S. 35 in Greene County, sending him over a guardrail and leaving him with serious injuries as the Ohio State Highway Patrol has cut tall grass along a curve that created a blind spot and plans to add new pavement markings to boost safety.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested at a residence on Victor Avenue for allegedly ordering his dogs to attack a person on July 11—video footage showed the dogs inflicting serious injuries, and officials turned the animals over to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.  WDTN
  • Governor Mike DeWine said he has concerns after Hershall Creachbaum, a 7-year-old from Dayton, died and that state investigators are asking questions about his care by Montgomery County Children’s Services — Clark County Children Services.  WHIO-TV
  • Shawn Adrian Jackson Sr. (49) was sentenced by Judge Angelina Jackson to 40 to 45½ years to life for a double shooting that killed Dominique Battle and seriously injured a woman (Dec. 6, 2023 in the 700 block of Brooklyn Avenue) in Dayton, the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Dayton raised $453 million in its 'We Soar' campaign that ended June 30—exceeding its $400 million goal. The donations will fund over 300 scholarships and nearly 40 new funds while the school navigates budget cuts and job losses.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • From 2020 to 2024, a national study found that Ohio ranked tenth with 21.11 medical malpractice reports per 100,000 residents—roughly 28% above the national average. The report also showed that the rate peaked in 2021 and then dropped to 16.81 by 2024.  Dayton 24/7 Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Dayton Arcade redevelopment project is now finished after decades of work that transformed nine historic buildings into offices, housing, classrooms, retail spaces and a new hotel — an effort that cost $162 million and ended nearly 30 years of vacancy. A ribbon-cutting on Thursday evening celebrated the Hilton Garden Inn Dayton Downtown, marking the final step in the transformation.  Dayton Daily News
