- ➤ Dayton police responded to a reported shooting near N. Broadway and W. Third St.—residents were told to avoid West Third St. between Paul Laurence Dunbar Ave and Edwin C. Moses Blvd as investigators from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office began working on the case. WDTN
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Very Carillon Christmas, a 35-minute holiday TV special from Dayton directed by Michael Webber and co-starring Gary Sandy and Carillon Historical Park head Brady Kress, won an Ohio Valley Emmy Award on July 19th. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Clergy Community Coalition is collecting 1,250 new signatures from registered Dayton voters between July 24 and August 11 to put a 1 mill property tax levy on the November ballot after the city commission deadlocked in a 2—2 vote with one abstention. If Montgomery County Board of Elections verifies the signatures, the levy will bypass the commission and reach the ballot. WYSO

- ➤ Dayton officials remind residents to use cooling centers at three recreation centers and local splash pads amid a heatwave that brings heat indices of 100 to 104 degrees. The centers are open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and splash pads are available daily from noon to 8 p.m.—neighbors are urged to remain in air-conditioned spaces. WDTN
- ➤ Ohio law requires Dayton schoolchildren to be vaccinated for 10 diseases before school and gives them a 14-day grace period if they haven’t finished their shots. In 2024, local public health reported only 84.6% of kindergartners were fully protected against measles—officials say fewer doctor visits may have lowered rates—while the Vaccines Protect Kids campaign works to boost immunizations.
