  • A grand jury in Dayton indicted Ashley N. Johnson (36) on obstructing justice and Michael D. Kendrick (39) on charges of gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in connection to the presumed death of a boy age 7 whose remains had been found after weeks, authorities said.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dayton police are asking for tips about a hit-and-run on July 13 at 7:10 p.m. (near Catalpa Drive on Cornell Drive) when a black Ford F-150 (hauling a trailer with a yellow zero-turn Hustler mower) struck a pedestrian who was hospitalized.  WDTN
  • Community members in West Dayton are rallying to address a surge in gun violence after recent shootings have killed 18 individuals near S. Paul Laurence Dunbar Street+ local records show 46 minors were arrested for firearm possession this year+ and activists urge police and officials to take swift action to protect local youth.  WDTN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dayton International Airport will receive nearly $80 million in state funds to upgrade airport aprons, taxiways, and roads on a 150-acre site in Dayton, Union, and Butler Township—efforts that are expected to attract aerospace and defense companies such as Sierra Nevada Corporation and Joby. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said his office will file an appeal this week after a judge ruled Ohio’s EdChoice voucher program unconstitutional — the ruling was stayed so the program can keep running while several school districts, including Dayton Public Schools, join the suit. Yost urged parents to consider what is best for their children as the appeal may shape future policy.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ronald McDonald House in Dayton opened its new building on Valley Street to triple its capacity from 14 to 42 rooms after a six-year campaign to help families stay near children receiving treatment. More than 100 community members (including local officials) attended the opening where 21 families (currently housed) can access care near Dayton Children's Hospital.  WHIO-TV
