  • UD sophomore Luke Skotzke, 20, drowned accidentally last Thursday while swimming near his hometown of Chardon—UD set up a memorial at the Chapel of Immaculate Conception and plans a fuller memorial in the fall.  WDTN
  • Police said a pregnant woman—who left her car after an argument—was hit by a driver backing up to leave, killing her and her unborn child in Ohio.  WHIO-TV
  • A multi-vehicle crash halted all three lanes of I-75N north of downtown on Saturday afternoon as Regional Dispatch reported possible injuries — authorities are investigating the incident.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • A man from Dayton was accused of making threats toward ICE agents—Homeland Security found a gun and ammunition during a search, according to McLaughlin.  WHIO-TV
  • Dayton police are investigating the homicide of 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum Jr. after his remains were found on McClure Street and interviews revealed he likely died in late May after a fatal beating by his mother's boyfriend Michael Kendrick—who now faces charges for evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse while his mother was also charged with obstructing justice.  Dayton Daily News

  • Northridge experienced a violent storm Saturday night that uprooted trees and tore roofs as heavy debris flew across streets—neighbors quickly joined forces to clear the area while no injuries were reported and repairs may take time.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WYSO and ThinkTV now face major cuts after Congress rescinded $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that helped fund 8 to 10 percent of WYSO’s budget and 15 percent of Public Media Connect’s support. WYSO is working with national partners and urging local donors to help fill the gap — though full funding may take years to restore.  Dayton Daily News
