  • At Dayton Convention Center, Gem City Comic Con is held today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—and Grimoire Academy’s Gothic Market runs from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets for GCCC are sold at the door for $5 while market tickets cost $14 online.  WDTN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buc-ee’s is hiring managers for its new Huber Heights store at 8000 State Route 235, which is under construction and set to open by spring—that search includes roles like general manager, assistant general manager, night manager, grocery manager, deli/food service manager, gift/merchandise manager, human resources representative, and janitorial/cleaning and maintenance manager. Once construction is complete, Buc-ee’s will expand hiring to include additional positions such as cashiers and team leads.  Dayton Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Dayton police chief Grover W. O’Connor, who died in 1993, admitted he approved illegal wiretapping during the late 1960s and riots—he said he targeted Black Panther phones—and he made this confession two months before his death.  Dayton Daily News
  • A new Dayton Daily News series titled Gem City Confessions reveals that in 1985 polygraph tests uncovered shocking admissions of crimes including theft, burglary, and illegal wiretapping by nearly 20 officers—an investigation that led to charges and highlighted the need for tighter police oversight.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dayton Police say 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum — reported kidnapped from his Xenia Avenue home on July 12th and later found dead — had been deceased for several weeks, and two suspects have been arrested on bonds of $2 million and $250,000.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • A committal service for four unclaimed veterans with no known next of kin will be held at Dayton National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. Attendees should arrive by 8:45 a.m. to join the procession.  WDTN

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Healthy Recovery Celebration is taking place today at McIntosh Park (882 W Riverview Ave) to reduce addiction stigma and honor recovery with live DJ music, free food, a bike giveaway and raffle prizes. The event (presented by Recovery Alliance of Montgomery County and Kami Dayton) supports local efforts to address higher drug use and overdose risks in the community.  WDTN
