- ➤ Homefull took over Dayton’s only men's homeless shelter on July 1 after St. Vincent De Paul could no longer operate it due to financial strain, and the new nonprofit now offers on-site programs (including AA groups, counseling, housing focus groups and a farm for job skills) to help residents become self-sufficient. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Woodard Development will invest about $9 million to transform the old KK Motorcycle Supply warehouse on East Third Street into modern offices that will create over 60 new jobs, retain 10 jobs, and boost a nearly $13 million annual payroll with support from a $1.5 million city grant. Construction will finish in the second quarter of 2026 and the building will open as an employment hub with a new two-story addition—improving East Third Street’s look and function. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ A 19-year-old man was sentenced to at least 3 years in prison after reportedly assaulting two police officers + injuring a firefighter during an April domestic violence call at Autumn Woods Apartments and pleading guilty to felonious assault while other charges were dismissed. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine cut 67 items from the $60B budget while lawmakers review plans for school funding, DPS bus pass changes, and property tax reforms. Lawmakers may try to reverse some vetoes as a tax study commission is set up+voters push for change. Dayton Daily News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Congress approved the federal spending bill that cuts Medicaid payments and over 760,000 Ohioans will risk losing coverage while hospitals across the state may lose billions in funding. The changes—set to take effect Jan. 1, 2026—could also end enhanced premium tax credits and increase unpaid care costs for hospitals in the Dayton area. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ Brookville officials approved plans on June 12 to redevelop the former high school and middle school into a housing project.
