- ➤ Dayton will host Wright-Dunbar Day on Sunday, June 29 at 1109 W. Third Street from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The block party will honor four historical figures— the Wright Brothers, Kathrine Wright Haskell, and Paul Laurence Dunbar— with food trucks, a vendor’s market and live entertainment. WDTN
- ➤ In Dayton’s Twin Towers neighborhood, Mission of Mary Cooperative has transformed five acres of vacant land into an urban farm that grows 120 types of produce and teaches school programs to fight food insecurity. The nonprofit addresses food apartheid and empowers local families—building hope for the future. WDTN

- ➤ Phillip Morgan, a culinary-trained chef, opened Morgan’s Fine Cuisine, a fine dining soul food restaurant in West Dayton after two years of planning and strong community support. The restaurant is located in the Wright Dunbar District—where officials say investment is growing—and operates Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. WDTN

- ➤ Ohio has awarded more than $4.5 million in historic preservation tax credits to renovate the old Sears store in Trotwood and a downtown parking garage. Model Group plans to invest about $14.7 million in the Air City Garage renovation—aiming to create a mixed-use space that supports housing, small businesses, and community services—while officials work to secure additional funding. - ➤ Wright State University’s elementary education program earned an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality for math teacher preparation + that rating reflects strong math content and teaching methods as the program enrolls between 60 and 70 new majors each spring + many graduates are expected to soon teach in Dayton schools. - ➤ The Ohio Senate’s proposed budget calls for sunsetting the state's historic preservation tax credit program at the end of fiscal year 2027 unless lawmakers authorize additional credits & the program has provided over $52 million in incentives to redevelop Dayton sites like the Dayton Arcade. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ The Montgomery County Jail Coalition released a petition on June 25 asking county commissioners to form a civilian oversight committee for the jail after at least 18 deaths were recorded over the past decade—one recent case was ruled a homicide. Bobby Beebe said the proposed committee would conduct unannounced tours and review key incidents, and the petition has already received over 200 signatures. WYSO

- ➤ Public Health in Dayton announced that mosquitoes at Wegerzyn MetroPark at 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave have tested positive for West Nile Virus and will have Duet sprayed Tuesday at dusk—weather permitting. Residents are advised to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and eliminate standing water to reduce breeding. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Kettering Health launched its mobile CPR kiosk in 2023 and nearly 10,000 people have used it at Dayton Metro Library—American Heart Association representative Sephanie Yenn said the kiosk shows why CPR training matters and that a milestone is expected this July. Dayton 24/7 Now
