  • Three Birds opened its doors on Shroyer Road near the Oakwood border on June 17 after a ribbon cutting—owners Chris Dimmick, David Kittredge, Ginger Roddick and Chef Jorge Guzman revived a historic building. The restaurant serves New American cuisine like smash burgers and chicken wings and features family-friendly activities such as a binocular game to spot hidden bird figurines.  Dayton Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County Clerk of Court Mike Foley pleaded no contest to charges of misuse of computer property (including improper solicitation of contributions) instead of going to trial on June 16, nearly one year after he was indicted.  WDTN
  • Dayton man Cortney Lowe, 34, was sentenced on Monday to 25 years to life for fatally beating Cathy Bell (64) and Danny Bell (67) with a sledgehammer on Dec. 3rd, 2024; he was convicted on June 4th and now appears on the state's Violent Offender Registry.  WHIO-TV
  • An Ohio federal grand jury indicted Vincent Nzigiyimfura, a 65-year-old Dayton resident, for fraudulently entering the U.S.—he is accused of hiding his role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide when he allegedly misrepresented his involvement in the killings of Tutsis.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • On June 13, Dayton police shot Rodney Smith II—holding a Glock19x after he refused to follow orders during a chase for a stolen Ford Fusion—and later took into custody Heaven Shepherd, who overdosed on narcotics and now faces charges for receiving stolen property, failure to comply, and possession of a fentanyl-related compound.  WHIO-TV
  • Montgomery County officials warned residents of scam calls in which fraudsters use the county jail’s phone number and law enforcement names to claim missed court appearances or arrests — they advised anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately and report the incident to local law enforcement.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • A fire and SWAT incident at a home on 2082 Harkness Street in East Westwood at about 5 p.m. left one person dead as police engaged a wanted subject who held a firearm inside—firefighters and officers quickly managed the scene without further injury.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wright-Patterson’s gate 19B on National Road will be closed for a two-phase construction project starting Monday until Sept. 29 except for 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. inbound traffic—drivers leaving the base must use gate 1B while new safety features, directional signage and modern denial barriers are installed.  Dayton Daily News
