ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a house fire in Dayton yesterday at 6:36 a.m. — no injuries have been reported and officials are reviewing the scene.  WHIO-TV
  • On Sunday, firefighters battled a car fire in the garage at The Greene in Beavercreek when thick smoke created nearly zero visibility—forcing them to extend their handline to control a red car with heavy front-end damage while ensuring the fire did not spread to nearby vehicles.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rwandan immigrant was arrested in Dayton earlier this week for allegedly lying on his visa to hide his role in planning genocide—court documents state he provided weapons, transportation and planned killings of Tutsis during the conflict.  WHIO-TV
  • Two men—James Collins and Thomas Downey—face charges after leading a high-speed chase on I-75 in Dayton that caused multiple accidents, left four people hospitalized and one seriously injured, and resulted in Collins' suspended license; they will appear in court on June 26.  Dayton 24/7 Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Communities gathered at a music festival in Huber Heights that celebrated Juneteenth a few days early, enjoying live music, food, and activities with free hats for father figures on Father's Day. The Cultural Diversity Citizens Action Commission said the event—now in its fourth year—helped start key conversations about uniting diverse groups.  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol will set up an OVI checkpoint in Wapakoneta next week to stop impaired drivers — the exact location will be announced the day before and officers urge those drinking to use a designated driver.  WDTN
  • The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded nearly $300,000 — with $87,000 for new body cameras and more than $200,000 for inmate addiction support — to upgrade its equipment and services.
