  • Ronald McDonald House in Dayton received nearly $28k from Shamrock Shake sales, with over 111,000 shakes sold and McDonald’s area franchisees donating 25 cents per shake — the funds support families staying near hospitals at no cost.  WDTN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A small apartment fire on the third floor of the Dayton Arcade caused water damage to commercial spaces below, affecting iHeartMedia and Table 33 restaurant—whose formal dining room has been partly closed—while property management is assessing the damage and no injuries were reported.  Dayton Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Dayton police arrested a suspect—20-year-old Danny Gladden Junior—in connection with the May shooting on W Grand Avenue that killed 19-year-old Darion Jones; records show he was booked at 11:29 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of murder.  WHIO-TV

  • Welcome Dayton uses a downtown mural to share immigrant and refugee stories and counter negative views in our community—The mural on Third National Bank displays real faces with QR codes that reveal personal profiles. EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 150 bus drivers took emergency training at Fairborn Middle School on Thursday morning amid a state driver shortage, where they practiced crash evacuations, emergency gear setup, and first-aid. Additional training is set for June 17th in Mansfield as lawmakers move House Bill 3 to the Senate to boost school bus safety—actions meant to protect students.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Senate bill in committee would bar some foreign buyers from purchasing land within 25 miles of military bases like Wright-Patterson and other important sites. Beavercreek officials said they already made local rules in 2023—while business leaders worry the proposal might hurt jobs and growth if it limits investments.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dayton Children’s new canine co-pilot Piper has helped children cope with emotional distress as hospital officials plan to move mental health services to the new Mathile Center for Mental Health and Wellness. Piper, trained by 4 Paws for Ability, works with specialists during individual and group sessions to ease anxiety and reduce the need for restraints.  Dayton Daily News
