  • Rebuilding Dayton Together announced Wednesday that over 3,100 home repairs were completed in six Dayton neighborhoods by May to help more than 125 families. The repairs addressed issues—decks, flooring, light fixtures, plumbing, and electrical work.  Spectrum News 1
  • Local students teamed with Liberty High School, YouthBuild Dayton and Habitat of Humanity of Greater Dayton to renovate a home so the Fisher family can buy their dream home with a zero percent interest mortgage. The Fisher family will move in in August—students gain valuable building skills for future projects.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • A woman witnessed a wrong-way chase on I-75 on Thursday when a pick-up truck missing a rear wheel drove full force in Moraine—reportedly prompting a man to throw wood at officers and causing a six-vehicle crash with no life-threatening injuries.  WHIO-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • 2 NEWS compiled a list of Pride Month events in the Miami Valley featuring parades, festivals and afterparties across Dayton and nearby communities. In Dayton, today’s Pride Festival and Parade runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 36 N. St. Clair Street (with events on Fifth Street and at Levitt), while celebrations in other areas are scheduled from June 6 through June 28.  WDTN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Dayton city leaders are seeking funds to cut PFAS—forever chemicals from the water supply and protect well fields across the county for safe drinking water.  WHIO-TV
  • Engineers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base have activated two PFAS treatment systems to reduce harmful chemicals in ground and surface water. The project (costing about $26 million) has already treated millions of gallons and the base will continue monitoring three additional sites.  Spectrum News 1
  • On Saturday, June 28, the 7 Circle of Kindness Community Recycling Drive will be held at the Cox Media Group Ohio Media Center parking lot (1611 S. Main St.) to let residents drop off an expanded list of hard-to-recycle items for free between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Local agencies are partnering for the drive to boost reuse, repurposing and recycling efforts in the Miami Valley.  WHIO-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kettering Health secured all its affected systems and removed the tools used by ransomware group Interlock after the May 20 attack. The health system said it is confident in its network security and urged anyone receiving suspicious calls, texts or emails to contact the police (alerts were issued last week).  Spectrum News 1
