BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pins Mechanical Co. announced that its social playground featuring duckpin bowling, classic pinball machines and patio pong will open on June 18 in Dayton’s Water Street District at the former Moeller Brew Barn at 416 E. First St. CEO Troy Allen said his company is expanding in Ohio with a seventh location opening later this summer and the venue will operate seven days a week with weekday hours starting at 4 p.m. and weekend hours at noon.  Dayton Daily News
  • Alisha Murray has led Daybreak since February 2023 and will leave her role in August to become CEO at UMCH Family Services in Columbus. The board praised her 16 years with the youth programs and will meet later this month to plan a search for a new CEO.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • Within five days, Dayton police responded to several shootings on Bragg Place — on May 31 a 28-year-old woman was shot by a man identified as the father of her child and treated at a hospital, on June 2 a 38-year-old man was injured in a gunfire exchange, and on June 5 additional victims were brought to a hospital with detectives investigating the events.  Dayton 24/7 Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dayton International Airport will host the CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show on June 21—22 with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds headlining its 51st anniversary. Organizers say the two-day event will offer flying displays, ground exhibits, and a celebration of the city’s aviation legacy.  Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • A historic marker now stands outside St. Mary’s Hall on the University of Dayton campus to honor local writer Erma Bombeck. The marker tells her story from a copygirl at the Dayton Herald to a nationally syndicated columnist.  Dayton Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 5, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base gave a tour of two treatment sites that lowered PFAS levels in water to EPA standards. Cleanup began after a spill years ago and three more projects will be built pending funding—efforts following a $26 million investment by Congress in 2020.  Dayton 24/7 Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County released the annual Point-in-Time Count results yesterday—showing a 7% drop in total homelessness from last year while the number of people sleeping unsheltered increased from 92 to 111.  Montgomery County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Montgomery County Prevention Coalition is hosting free naloxone events today at Premier Health YMCA (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and at Dayton Metro Library in Miami Township (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) as part of National Naloxone Awareness Day following more than 40 overdose deaths in the first three months. The kits include naloxone, gloves and a face mask and are available while supplies last.  Dayton Daily News
