  • Koji Burger will expand to a new location at the Jollity site on the 100 block of East Third Street this fall, and it will close Jollity for a few weeks to remodel into a full-time restaurant with longer hours, a bigger menu, a fresh bar program, and other surprises—this change follows four-and-a-half years of community support.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old boy died after being shot several times inside his home on June 3—police are investigating the fatal shooting.  WHIO-TV
  • Dayton police responded at 9:45 a.m. to suspicious circumstances that led to the discovery of one body and three days later to a fire on the 2000 block of West Grand Avenue where a 26-year-old man was found in a car trunk — homicide detectives are investigating both deaths and have not determined if they are connected.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dayton police are offering a reward up to $5,000 for tips that lead to arrest of a small group behind widespread graffiti affecting public spaces and closed businesses—officials and neighborhood leaders say community help is needed as crews work to remove the markings.  Dayton Daily News

  • Heartsiq will host its Mixtape Pride Festival on Saturday, June 7 at The Brightside (905 E. 3rd St.) where doors open at 5 p.m. and live music, DJs and local vendors will offer a fresh celebration for Pride Month.  WDTN
  • Dayton will join other cities in celebrating Juneteenth with community events at Levitt Pavilion downtown and at the Eichelberger Amphitheater in Huber Heights—free concerts, dance shows, and food trucks are planned. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Mike DeWine announced six new projects that will bring over $39 million in investments and create more than 2,000 jobs statewide — the projects are set in northwest, central, southeast and southwest Ohio and include initiatives in Dublin, Carey, South Point, Blue Ash, Symmes Township and Sharonville that are expected to add 716 new jobs and generate over $50 million in payroll.  Spectrum News 1

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers have introduced House Bill 307 that will require all lead service lines to be replaced in 15 years to cut health risks from lead exposure, a measure aimed at areas like Dayton where hundreds of known lead lines exist and many more may contain lead. The bill will also support low- and moderate-income customers and workforce training to ensure safe replacement statewide — a step intended to prevent lead poisoning in children.  Dayton Daily News
  • Wright-Patterson Air Force Base broke ground Tuesday on a $38.3 million child care center to lower the long waiting list for families, and the new center will serve 400 children and staff (it boosts capacity by more than 300 children over the old facility).  Dayton Daily News

  • On Tuesday, a ribbon cutting in the historic Wright Dunbar neighborhood marked the unveiling of 26 new urban townhomes built with part of a $50 million revitalization effort using American Rescue Plan funds. Local developers including the Simms family and city leaders celebrated the project as the townhomes—each offering two bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a two-car garage—start to sell, with three already sold.  WDTN
