ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Riverside Local School District asked for prayers for Jackson Scott—a recent graduate—who died when his 2009 Ford Focus swerved to avoid an animal and hit a tree on State Route 235, and passenger Landyn Thompson was taken with serious injuries to Miami Valley Hospital.  WHIO-TV

  • Dayton Police responded at around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday to a fire assist call on the 2000 block of West Grand Avenue, where they found a dead body in the burning car's trunk & detectives are investigating the incident.  Dayton 24/7 Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dayton Public Schools’ board is considering changes to student busing options as state law and budget limits hinder major modifications — board members discussed using limited service routes and returning to yellow buses, with proposals costing between $3 million and $16 million and relying on upcoming state budget decisions. Officials said community support and transit system planning will shape the new plan for future school years.  Dayton Daily News

  • Six candidates applied to fill the West Carrollton City Council seat after Amanda Zennie resigned on May 8 due to relocation. The council must choose a qualified candidate—each with a unique background—within 60 days per city charter.  Dayton Daily News
  • Ohio and AFRL at Wright-Patterson renewed their pact to share technology and research, which helps boost defense work and local jobs — officials said the renewed agreement is vital for Ohio’s future and the base’s economic impact. Governor DeWine and military leaders noted the deal will support further innovation and growth in the region.  Dayton Daily News
  • Defense officials announced plans to cut permanent change of station budgets and reduce nonessential moves by fiscal 2030—operational, overseas, and training travel will drop by 10% in fiscal 2027, 30% in 2028, 40% in 2029 and 50% by 2030. The May 22 memo directs service branches to submit plans within 120 days while also proposing career changes that support geographic stability for service members.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brigid’s Path provides round-the-clock care for mothers and babies affected by substance abuse in Dayton and has helped nearly 300 newborns since 2017. Dr. Judy Monroe—president of the CDC Foundation and a Dayton native—visited the facility to encourage community support while it works to fill a funding gap pending Medicaid reimbursement.  WDTN
