  • East Dayton Neighborhood Development Corporation is creating Ruskin Commons park on a vacant lot at 405 Xenia Ave—transforming a former nuisance property into a community space with a $156,700 project that adds a concrete sidewalk, plaza, ornamental fence, landscaping, lighting and an art display near Ruskin Elementary; the city has supported the plan with an $80,000 Community Development Block Grant.  Dayton Daily News
  • Private James Loterbaugh, a World War II hero from Roseville whose remains were confirmed by DNA testing, returned home Friday as Dayton police—along with veterans' groups—led a motorcade to his area funeral home for a final salute.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • The Dayton area is hosting 30 events in June that range from comedy at the Victoria Theatre and quilting shows at Wright State to air shows and festivals across the city—each offering a mix of free and ticketed options for community members.   • Sheetz will open its 10th Dayton-area location next week and will start grand opening festivities at 9 a.m. Wednesday with prize giveaways including a $2,500 gift card.   • Del Taco and Jack in the Box are seeking a franchisee to bring new locations to Dayton, with the first restaurant set to open 18 to 24 months from now — the brands require a commitment for three to five stores along with at least $500,000 in liquidity and $1.5 million in net worth.  Dayton Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Dayton teen, Manual Perez, was indicted for reckless homicide after his friend Tay’Shawn Cobb died from a gunshot wound on May 22 on Pinecrest Drive — Perez is held on a $50,000 bond with an arraignment set for June 3.  WDTN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miami Valley STEM students visited the National Museum of the US Air Force as part of HeliStorm 2025—an event running from May 29 through June 1—to gain hands-on experience in aviation and compete for a shared $5,000 scholarship. Organizer Michael Kranitz said he hopes the event sparks new interest in aviation careers.  WHIO-TV
