  • Ronald McDonald House of Dayton is hosting its Tab-A-Pull-Ooza fundraiser (20th edition) to collect pop tabs for recycling that turn into funds supporting families with children in hospital.   • Harrison Township firefighters rescued a family of two adult geese and four goslings stranded on the roof of a vacant building on Friday (using Ladder 95 to retrieve them) and later released the birds into a nearby wooded area.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Saturday's Dayton Dragons game, nine local high school students received congressional nominations to attend military schools when Congressman Mike Turner honored them as part of the Celebrate Dayton event + one student from Chaminade High noted her family's military tradition.  WHIO-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central State University and The Foodbank, Inc. are launching a food forest outside downtown Dayton to boost tree canopy coverage and offer classes on planting and care. The project kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18 at The Foodbank’s Community Center at 10 Armor Place.  Dayton Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road work is closing a busy Dayton road this weekend because city crews are repairing the roadway (project details have not been released). Motorists should use alternate routes during construction.  WHIO-TV
  • Kettering has received $1.7M in federal grant funds for lead hazard reduction in eligible homes, prioritizing low- and moderate-income households and homes with children under six. The funds will cover inspections, remediation work, and education on safe housing practices plus additional interventions.  Dayton Daily News
