ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ State regulators approved Duke Energy Ohio’s electric security plan that will raise rates for about 700,000 customers starting June 1. Customers not in a government aggregation program will pay nearly 2.5 cents more per kilowatt hour and see an $8.41 increase on a 1,000 kWh bill over three years—Duke will use funds for grid updates and energy efficiency programs. - ➤ Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton is taking steps to lower PFAS contamination from decades of firefighting foam use—recent tests show groundwater levels now exceed new EPA drinking water limits. - ➤ Dayton officials unveiled a new peace sign at RiverScape MetroPark—marking the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords and celebrating the upcoming NATO Parliamentary Assembly from May 22 to 26. - ➤ Dayton leaders and police detailed plans for keeping the city safe as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly starts next week — they will install over 14,000 feet of fencing and 6,000 feet of concrete barriers, close some downtown areas for security, and set up special corridors to help residents and businesses.
