- ➤ Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek will mark its 75th anniversary on May 18th—celebrating decades of service and its Special Connections ministry that supports families with disabilities. - ➤ United Wheels, a global company that includes Huffy—a Dayton staple for 130 years—said its class one and class two e-bikes let riders of all ages and fitness levels enjoy safe riding. - ➤ A former AMVETS commander from Dayton is accused of transferring funds from the nonprofit’s bank accounts and withdrawing about $622,000 for personal use—spending money on travel, casinos and a gentleman’s club during his service from January 2022 to May 2024. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Kenneth Farler III was sentenced on May 14 after shooting and killing his 15-year-old daughter in Dayton on April 14, 2024—he will serve between 24.5 and 28.5 years in prison after being convicted on several charges, including a drug trafficking case that led to his probation being revoked. - ➤ Dayton Police reported an increase in youth violence from January through April with 4 minors killed by homicide in early 2025 compared to 10 last year and 134 combined victims of violent crimes, and officers will enforce an 11 p.m. curfew and nuisance party laws—working with summer camps to prevent further incidents. - ➤ Troy E. Meink was confirmed as the new Air Force secretary on May 13 by a 74—25 Senate vote, and he brings solid experience from his time at Wright-Patterson and AFRL. He worked as a flight test engineer and program manager and will use his skills to lead the department. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Rocket Lab's Neutron—a medium-lift reusable launch vehicle—will perform a re-entry experiment under an AFRL contract to test a point-to-point rocket cargo system. The experiment will show how reusable rockets can lower costs for government and commercial missions. Dayton Daily News
